Learn to row at Lincoln Park Boat Club!
For those who are new to water sports, the calm protected water of the Lincoln Park lagoon is the best place in the Chicago to learn the basics. These classes are held at our Lincoln Park boathouse, located at 2341 N. Cannon Drive (next to the zoo).
No prior experience is required for any of our introductory classes below. Classes vary in length and are led by Lincoln Park Boat Club’s experienced coaches and instructors. These programs are best-suited for adults (18 and over). For introductory courses designed for children and teenagers, have a look at our youth programs.
Learn to Row
This nine-session class is an introduction to the sport of rowing. This class requires no prior rowing experience and will put you on the path of becoming a skilled rower. Classes will focus on the fundamentals of rowing, including: the basic rowing stroke, water safety, a facility orientation, and equipment handling. Students will receive instruction in both methods of rowing: sweep (one oar) and sculling (two oars).
Upon completion of the class, students will have the option to join Lincoln Park Boat Club for the remainder of the year at a discounted rate. Membership at Lincoln Park Boat Club grants you access to the club’s equipment so you may continue rowing on your own or you can become a member of our Novice Rowing Team.
Classes run every month (April to November) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30 PM -8:30 PM and Saturday 11:00 AM -12:30 PM
Learn to Scull
For those who want to learn to row in smaller boats (single and double sculls), this three-session class introduces the individuals to the sport of sculling.
The class is held over three days (Sunday afternoon, Monday and Wednesday evenings). Upon completion of the class, students will have the option to join Lincoln Park Boat Club at a discounted rate to continue learning to scull on their own or with one of our coached programs (intermediate sculling, novice rowing team).
Registration for 2020 is not yet available.
