We’re sure the first thing on everyone’s mind is regaining access to our facilities and reinstating programming. With the announcement that Illinois’ stay at home order is extended to April 30, our facilities will remain closed and programming postponed until at least then. We will continue to follow the city and state’s guidance on this issue and work closely with our partners at the Chicago Park District (CPD).
We’re sure you’re also wondering what access to the lagoon will be like once we are through this global pandemic. Shortly before the shelter in place order went into effect, we had been in conversation with the CPD on the steps needed to install the dock. These conversations had to be put on hold because of COVID-19, but we feel good about the progress being made and hope to have a plan in place quickly once we are able to access the Lincoln Park Boat House.
Trish Brubaker Promoted to Executive Director
The LPBC Board of Directors is pleased to announce the promotion of Trish Brubaker to Executive Director/Head Coach. While the title of Executive Director is new for Trish, the responsibilities of the role are not. Since Trish returned to LPBC as a coach in 2011, she has taken on an increasing level of duties that have helped LPBC extend its influence in our community.
Trish has been the consistent and positive liaison with the CPD taking on a key role in the club’s move to Park 571. It’s her hard work and daily interactions with the CPD that will enable us to reopen the lagoon boathouse when the COVID-19 ban is lifted. In addition, it is Trish who is the consistent contact with local and marine government entities and our other community partners.
As Head Coach, she reignited our juniors program in 2013 and has since created numerous new programs at LPBC, for all skill levels and for all boat categories. Trish also inaugurated the Chicago River Marathon, an international event that elevates LPBC‘s profile in the rowing community.
Prior to taking the helm at LPBC, Trish served as the Head Coach of Lafayette College Men’s and Women’s Crew, in Easton, PA from 2005 to 2012. Her own competitive background includes rowing under the coaching of Igor Grinko and Sean Hall, along with 20 other athletes training and competing for spots on the United States National Team in 2003 and 2004, training and racing coast-to-coast, and bringing home gold at USRowing’s Club National Championship.
Trish’s expertise, hard work, and passion for Lincoln Park Boat Club has enabled us to thrive. Please join the Board in congratulating Trish Brubaker.

Over the winter and in recent weeks, we’ve taken on revamping the Lincoln Park Boat Club website with the help of Nate Daubert. We’re still making a few final tweaks but didn’t want to wait any longer to share the new design with you. If you notice any major issues, feel free to email Meagan Meldrim.
Support Local Businesses
As we continue to navigate the challenges of COVID-19, we’d like to continue to support our local community businesses. If you, a family member or friend work at a local business, email Meagan Meldrim with how to best support!
Restaurants & Bars
Dimo’s Pizza: They’re open for delivery and pick-up! They’ve added some great new menu options too – like make and bake lasagnas and BYO Pizza Kits (complete with Instagram Live instructional videos), which seem like a great activity for being stuck at. Plus, they’re delivering beer!
Spiteful Brewing: Our favorite brewery is open for takeaway sales. Browse their online selection or call ahead and they’ll even bring it out to your car. Don’t forget to check out their selection of mugs, pint glasses, and apparel.
Vincent: Make sure to support our Andersonville favorite as they support their community. They’re offering free family meals most days from 5-6 p.m. for restaurant industry workers or those confined to their homes (if you can afford it, they suggest a $5-10 donation). Plus, daily, they’ve got a special takeout or delivery menu from 5-9 p.m.
The Duck Inn: Our South Side boathouse staple has its full menu available for pick-up and delivery. They’re also running a Go Fund Me campaign to help support their staff for those interested in donating.
Hotels & Travel
Hotel Lincoln: Consider booking a stay-cation for later this year at one of our long-time Chicago Sprints’ sponsors. Their restaurants are closed for the time being, but you can contribute to their Employee Relief fund.
